Young Artist Program
The Gerald and Peggy Peterson Young Artist Program, created in 2008, will take young, inspired singers to the next level of preparedness with local training. The Young Artist Program (YAP) will provide mentoring, training in stagecraft, vocal technique, audition techniques and repertoire building. It will also provide community exposure through public appearances and other social service opportunities as well as performance opportunities beginning as chorus and secondary roles and leading to understudies for main stage operas.

The program gratefully honors the legacy of Gerry and Peggy Peterson, life-long patrons and sponsors of the arts, especially children's art education.

Vocal Scholarship Competition
Opera San Luis Obispo is pleased to sponsor an annual Vocal Scholarship Competition. The
contest is open to both male and female voice students in two categories: high-school (15-18) and college (19-23). Three cash prizes will be offered in each category.

The first-place winner in each category will be asked to perform at our annual opera gala. No professional singers are invited to apply.

In order to qualify for a scholarship, singers must be able to show proof of a minimum grade point average of 2.8 in academic subject areas (or a copy of a high school diploma). In addition, they must currently be studying with an established voice teacher. Singers must be residents of San Luis Obispo County. Also eligible are singers who grew up in San Luis Obispo County, but are attending college elsewhere (provided they are able to appear at the auditions).

2007 Winners: Lauren Moore and Ramon Echevarria
