New this year! Maestro’s Masterclass will be held just before each Met Live in HD screening from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Participants will experience an in-depth and fun journey into the heart of opera: the composers, famous past and current opera stars, historic audio and video, and everything else you need to know before the show. Get the full schedule here.
New this year! Our education series continues with The Allure of Bel Canto Opera March 7 with Simon Williams and Celebrating Claudio Monteverdi and the Birth of Opera with John Frey over 4 days in March and April.
OperaSLO featured a Children’s Arts Showcase educational initiative with its 2017 Grand Opera production. When 2,200 patrons attended performances on October 14 and 15, they had the opportunity of seeing the lobby of the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo adorned with art inspired by Madama Butterfly, created by young artists from public schools throughout San Luis Obispo County. This initiative is part of a growing partnership between OperaSLO, County Superintendent Dr. James Brescia, and the San Luis Obispo Offices of Education, demonstrating that music education is positively linked to the intellectual and emotional development of our youth.
Last summer, San Luis Obispo County Offices of Education proudly presented Peter and the Wolf: Telling Stories Through Music! This exciting FREE production for families took place on Tuesday, May 30th 11am at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre. This arts collaboration boasts complete sets and costumes and brings together the talents of Ballet Theatre San Luis Obispo, radio talk show host Dave Congalton as the narrator, and the Opera San Luis Obispo Grand Orchestra conducted by Artistic Director Brian Asher Alhadeff.
